Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a popular online movie content known for its properties of tingling effects. Creating ASMR content for each user is important because there are individual content preferences. An Interactive Genetic Algorithm (IGA) is a method to search for media content suited to each user’s feelings. This study proposes that the IGA adjusts the number of source sounds with a duplication rule. The adjustment is expected to dedicate the effective search because the proposed approach can produce various sounds. The efficiency of the proposed IGA is investigated with a listening experiment. As a result, increases in evaluation values were observed. The number of source sounds played by the system was also investigated.

  • Investigation of Effect of Singer’s Voice Volume in a Music Piece on Listener’s Subjective Evaluations and Linguistic Tasks Reviewed

We often listen to music pieces during their tasks with expectations to make the listers happy and contribute to good performance. However, previous studies revealed that the singer’s voice interrupts the linguistic task because realizing the lyrics consumes brain resources. The authors hypothesize that the difference in the voice volume affects the listener’s subjective evaluations and linguistic tasks. Twenty-one Japanese students participated in the listening experiments. They performed the linguistic task while listening to four kinds of music pieces based on a famous music piece with Japanese lyrics. Four music stimuli were composed as follows: (1) only musical instruments without voice; (2) the volume of singing voices was lower than instruments; (3) the singing voices and instruments were at the same level of volume; (4) the volume of voice was larger than instruments. The experimental results showed a significant effect on the subjective easiness of the linguistic task.

English skills are important for college students when they submit papers to international conferences. We propose a method to practice speaking skills by using a voice changer and Interactive Differential Evolution, which makes English voices similar to users’ voices inside of their heads. This method should be useful when users try to imitate any English voices that are different from the users. 11 examinees participated in the experiments through 10 generations with 6 vectors of Differential Evolution in each generation. They kept choosing the better option in terms of the similarity of the voices compared to the examinees’ voices. Unfortunately, the transition of the parameters was not significant, and we could not observe any differences between the initial and final generations. However, we also conducted another evaluation experiment, and the results showed that the system could successfully make English voices similar to users’ voices inside of their heads. Besides, compared to our previous method, this method is so versatile that we can use any sound resources as a factor of the experiment since this system is voice-changing the PC’s output sound. In the future, we would reconsider the number of the parameters and check the effect of them.

This article aims to compose music melody suited for multiple users’ feelings by employing parallel Distributed Interactive Genetic Algorithm (DIGA). In the DIGA, each user proceeds into a general Interactive Genetic Algorithm (IGA) process by evaluating solution candidates subjectively. In some generations, individuals in IGA are exchanged between the users. With the exchange, each of the users is affected by other users’ feelings. As a result, obtaining good solutions suited for all users is expected. The authors conducted listening experiments for investigating the efficiency of the DIGA for composition of a music melody. Two experimental conditions with and without the exchange were employed. Ten people participated in the experiment as subjects, and were paired for the IGA task. The experimental results showed that a higher fitness was obtained in the final generation and similar melodies were obtained with the exchange.

Interactive evolutionary computation (IEC) is known as a method to optimize media contents suited to user's subjective feeling and preference. Previous IECs employed various evolutionary algorithms, and some of them applied Tabu Search (TS) algorithm: This method was named Interactive Tabu Search (ITS). In the ITS, users have to select the best individual from current population. ITS was often used for the area of computer graphics, and some previous studies applied ITS for creating fragrance. In these studies, blended fragrances composed of several aroma sources are corresponded to individuals in ITS. Adjusting intensity of each aroma source was target of optimization. Purpose of this study is to propose ITS that combines paired comparison in user's evaluation task and differential vector between the best individuals of different generations. The best individuals here mean that the best individuals in the current generation and in the previous generation. By combining these factors, we expect both of easy user's selection of the best individual and efficient search in searching fragrance. To investigate a fundamental efficiency of the proposed ITS, a smelling experiment was conducted. Target fragrance was a fragrance suited to a deodorant which has originally no fragrance.

Interactive Evolutionary Computation (IEC) is known as an efficient method which reflects user's subjective preference on media contents. However, user's fatigue caused by repetitive evaluation tasks remains as a severe problem in IEC. The purpose of this study is to propose a new framework of IEC, continuous evaluation-based IEC (CEIEC) that continues user's evaluation tasks in many days. CEIEC allows the user's subjective evaluation day by day to have many evaluation times without severe fatigue, while conventional IECs performed user's task in one time in one day. This study also performed a listening experiment for investigating efficiencies of CEIEC. The target of search with CEIEC was to design a bright sign sound. Sixteen subjects participated in the listening experiment which is composed of tasks of three days: in the 1st and the 2nd days, the subjects performed a selection task throughout fifteen generations. Successive update of the solution was observed during these two days. In the 3rd day, the subjects evaluated three sign sounds with 7-point scale. These three sounds were picked up from the 0th, 14th, and 29th generations, respectively. The sound with the highest score was found in the 29th generation. These results show the efficiencies of CEIEC.

This study aims to propose an I Evolutionary Computation that creates sound contents for multiple users. Sound contents including music pieces and sign sounds are often used in our daily life for creating common atmosphere and transmitting a certain message to everyone. The proposed method is based on parallel distributed Interactive Genetic Algorithm (IGA), which creates visual media contents commonly suited to multiple users. In this method, each of the users proceeds general IGA process by evaluating solution candidates of the IGA. As a special property of this method, in some generations, solution candidates are exchanged between the users. With the exchange, each of the users is affected by other users' feelings. It is expected that good solution evaluated as best solution by all of the users is obtained. Based on the concept of the proposed method, we constructed an IGA system for fundamentally investigating efficiencies of the proposed method. Aim of the IGA system is to create a short music melody commonly affording bright image. Key of the notes was treated as gene of IGA. Music chord progression called Canon chord is attached to the melody when it is presented to the subjects. 10 persons participated in the experiment as subjects. In the IGA system, two users participated in the evaluation process simultaneously. Experimental results showed almost continuous increase in mean and maximum fitness values between the subjects. To clarify the efficiency of the exchange of the proposed method, further study with comparing experiment including conditions with/without the exchange is needed.

Laughing is an important emotional movement of human beings, and recent information technology tackled to build a method that augments the user's laughter. In the previous study, feedback method was used: User's laughter is detected by using electro-myogram, and laughing voice is afforded to the user when the user's laughter is detected. They also had experiment, however, efficiency of their method was not observed The present study improved their method by employing detection of laughter by using respiration information. In the construction of a system based on the method, number of the laughing voice is increased. Ten subjects participated in the experiment, and they watched animation video with/without laughing voice afforded from the system. The number of user's laughter, impressions of concentration and interesting for the video were indices for comparing two experimental conditions. The mean value of the number was larger in the condition with laughing voice. However, no significant difference was observed in the indices.

Interactive Evolutionary Computation (IEC) is a method for creating media contents suited to user's feelings. IEC is originally used for personal objectives. Recent IEC studies apply it to common objectives between multiple users. For obtaining fitness value of multiple users, the previous IEC studies include interesting schemes; vote, parallel distributed method, and summarization of multiple fitness values. Target of these previous IEC studies was visual contents. This study proposes a method for creating sound contents suited to multiple users' feelings based on Interactive Differential Evolution (IDE). In the proposed method, multiple users' subjective evaluation is obtained by vote for paired solution candidates: the solution candidate gathered larger number of votes retains as a solution candidate in the next generation. The efficiency of the proposed IDE was investigated through listening experiment. Target of creation was "warning sound". The target and parameters of IDE were set by referring to the author's previous study. In the experiment 1, the subjects searched better warning sounds with vote. As result, slow convergence of searching space was observed. In the experiment 2, the subjects evaluated two sign sounds created in the experiment 1. No significant increase in fitness value was observed. These poor results might come from summarization of multiple users' feeling as the selection. Based on the results, improvement method is discussed.

To use more effective media contents, creation of media contents suited to each user's feelings is important objective in the area of engineering. We have already proposed an Interactive Genetic Algorithm (IGA) accepting user's manipulation on gene of solution candidates as additional evaluation, while most of conventional Interactive Evolutionary Computations (IECs) accepted only user's scoring or selection. This study aims to apply the IGA accepting user's manipulation to creation of music melodies. To investigate the efficiencies of the application of the IGA for creation of music melodies, listening experiments were conducted. In the experiments, the subjects listened to music melodies created from the IEC system based on the proposed method. With the system, the subjects could manipulate key of music note in music melodies. The experimental results showed that significant increase in fitness value. Furthermore, the melody created by the users themselves was the best among four experimental conditions.

Interactive evolutionary computation (IEC) is a method for creating media contents suited to the user's preference. Efficiency of previous IEC studies was generally investigated from the view point of optimization. However, few previous studies paid attention to their efficiency as a reflection of individual preferences. As an application of IEC, we already proposed a method that creates sign sounds using paired comparison-based interactive differential evolution (IDE). This study investigates the efficiency of the IDE for reflecting individual difference on the created sound through two experiments. In Experiment 1, the subjects searched better warning sounds with the IDE. The result of Experiment 1 showed gradual convergence of DE's vectors. In Experiment 2, the subjects evaluated four sign sounds created in Experiment 1. Two of them were created by the subject, and the other two were created by another subject. The result of Experiment 2 showed significant increase in the subjective fitness value for sounds created by the subjects themselves. Furthermore, significant difference between sounds by one subject and another was observed in the final generation. These results suggest that IDE is effective in creating warning sounds suited to each user reflecting individual difference. (C) 2015 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Movie is one of the most popular media types. Horror movie is a kind of attractive movie contents which part of people want to watch very much. Although the users feel terror of the contents, the users want to watch the horror movies to have extraordinary feelings such as excitements. Therefore, terror feelings of the horror movies are considered as an important factor to establish more attractive movie contents, and the effect of horror movie is highly believed. However, few previous studies have investigated a relationship of horror movie and its terror feelings. This study aims to investigate psychophysiological effects of horror movies on the user for clarifying the relationship. In the experiment, physiological data (electrocardiogram and respiration, and skin conductance) of ten male subjects were measured. Additionally, after watching movie contents, the experimenter asked the subjects points in movie affecting terror feelings on the subjects and how the subjects felt in these points. The experimental results shows that change in intensity and cycle of respiration: in the point affecting terror feelings on the subject, the intensity of respiration was augmented and the cycle of respiration was shortened.

Interactive Evolutionary Computation (IEC) spreads its area of applications. As an example of the applications, we have already proposed an IEC that optimizes fragrance composition suited to each user's feelings by using Interactive Differential Evolution (IDE). To create the fragrance, six aroma sources were mixed, and the intensity of them were target of optimization. Paired comparison was employed as subjective evaluation method. To enhance searching ability of the IDE method, this study proposes a new IDE utilizing both of evolution level of DE's vector (solution candidate) and time information required in user's selection in the paired comparison. In other words, shorter time duration required in the selection is considered as there is larger difference of fitness level between two vectors. Winner vector tended to have chance to evolve itself. These schemes in the proposed method are expected to accelerate searching better solutions. In this study, we constructed an IDE system optimizing fragrances based on the proposed method. Furthermore, with the IDE system, we conducted smelling experiments for investigating the fundamental efficiency of the proposed method. Target of creation was relaxing fragrance. The experimental results showed that obtained fragrances in the last generation was evaluated better than fragrances in initial generation significantly (P<0.01).

Fragrance is one of important media types used in our daily life, and it is ideal that using media content suited to each user. However, adjustment of fragrance composition is difficult for most of general users. Interactive Evolutionary Computation (IEC) is known as an efficient method to optimize media contents, and we have already proposed some IECs for optimizing fragrance composition. To enhance the optimization ability of IEC, some previous studies proposed that IEC accepts user's manipulations on solution candidate in IEC. Our previous study proposed Interactive Tabu Search (ITS) for optimizing fragrance composition with the user's manipulation, and a fundamental efficiency of the ITS was investigated. However, the efficiency was not investigated with comparing experiment. Purpose of this study was to investigate the efficiency of the manipulation in the ITS by comparing with ITS without any manipulation. With these two experimental conditions, smelling experiments were conducted. In result of optimizing experiment, relatively one direction changes in intensity of some aroma sources were observed in both conditions. In result of evaluating experiment, maximum mean fitness was observed in the final best solution in the ITS with manipulation. The fitness of the best solutions in both conditions was significantly higher than solution candidate in the initial generation. However, significant difference between the two conditions was not observed.

    Language:Japanese

Interactive Evolutionary Computation (IEC) is well known approach searching good solutions for each user in terms of finding good graphics, sounds, and music pieces. This study aims to propose IEC with multiple users for creating fragrance. The fragrances are composed of several aroma sources; therefore, target of the proposed method is to optimize intensity of each source aroma. While the general IEC searches good solutions for each of the users, the proposed method can search good or optimal solution between the users by changing good solutions between the users during the search. In this study, a concrete system was constructed to show a fundamental efficiency of the proposed method.

  • A Search for Optimal Parameters of User's Voice Using Continuous Evaluation-based Interactive Evolutionary Computation

    1 33 - 37 2018

     More details

    Language:Japanese

Interactive Evolutionary Computation (IEC) is an attractive method that searches media contents suited to each user's preferenceand feelings. However, shortage of evaluation time caused of human user's fatigue remains as a severe problem. A previous studyproposed Continuous Evaluation-based IEC which makes the continuous evaluation task over several days. This study conductedan experiment for searching parameters of good voice for each user based on the idea of Continuous Evaluation-based IEC. Creationof voice was performed by using a free software UTAU. Experimental results showed successful increase in fitness values.
